DPAL Holiday Shopping

NCFC Youth partners with Durham Police Athletic League to spread holiday cheer.

On December 16th, NCFC Youth teamed up the pros of NCFC and NC Courage to provide two deserving players of our community outreach program, Durham Police Athletic League (DPAL), with holiday cheer.

This festive holiday shopping spree was given to the youth players from DPAL to support them and their family during a difficult time in their lives. Siblings Khaleil and Zatorria, along with their entire family, lost many of their possessions to a recent fire that destroyed their family’s home. This holiday shopping experience allowed the youth players to distance themselves from a challenging moment in their lives.

NCFC Youth took Khaleil and Zatorria holiday shopping to purchase items they lost in the fire and even to splurge on things they had their eye on this holiday season. Nazmi Albadawi from NCFC and Jaelene Hinkle from NC Courage paired off with the youth players to make this exciting experience complete.

Khaleil was most generous in his shopping. He reserved some funds for purchasing holiday gifts for himself, like some Vbucks and even splurge on a giant gummy teddy. Albadawi helped style Khlaleil with new clothes for school, socks, and other necessities. Khaleil made sure that before he left, he also had a little something special in his cart for his siblings, his grandmother, and his cousins. Albadawi went above and beyond and even purchased Khlaleil an extra Vbucks card as a belated birthday present.

Zatorria had a great time bonding with Jaelene when they shopped for new clothes and a giant pink rabbit for her to sleep with at night. She was thoughtful in her other picks by grabbing household necessities like ice cube trays that her mother needed for their new refrigerator. Zatorria even picked up a new DVD player and movies so she and siblings could watch TV together.

NCFC Youth views this moment as an honor to use soccer as a way to give back to our players within the community during the holiday season.
