200 coaches participate in FAW grassroots conference

More than 200 NCFC Youth coaches participated in FAW grassroots conference

This past week, thousands of NCFC Youth players were back on the fields for the official kick-off of the spring season. But, before the excitement on the fields took place this week, many of our coaches elected to immerse themselves in a full-day grassroots coaching course, hosted by the Football Association of Wales (FAW) Trust, to ensure that they were bringing their A-game to their teams this season, and we were excited to have them lead our full day coaching education day.

On Saturday, February 15th, more than 200 NCFC Youth coaches took over Carter Finley Football Stadium’s Dail Club and the Close-King Indoor practice facility for a morning classroom session followed by an afternoon on-field coaching session. NCFC Youth partnered with FAW Trust, a Welsh charity that’s growing Welsh football from grassroots to the national level, to provide a knowledgeable and unique international perspective on coaching – applicable across all levels of play. Coaches from all programs (Recreation, Challenge, Juniors, Classic, ECNL, and Academy) learned alongside each other in the classroom and on the field in order to help their teams this season.

FAW Trust demonstrated their Welsh Way by creating useful skill sessions that educated coaches on how to develop their training sessions. During the on-field sessions, coaches observed coaching practices and received live responses from experts in the coaching field. Once coaches watched instructors walk youth players through a drill, they then broke out into small groups to discuss ways of incorporating principles taught during sessions. These skill-building exercises created practical opportunities for educational coaching experiences.

This developmental conference included a wide range of not only practical sessions by coaching theory sessions as well. Coaches took to the classroom to absorb information on how to translate classroom knowledge into practical tactics for the field. Coaches excitingly took notes on the useful knowledge given to them by the FAW coaches. A room filled with like-minded, forward-thinking individuals developed great conversation and take-home notes to use during games and training sessions.

The day proved impactful since it hosted an atmosphere for coaches to be creative and gain reality-based learning. NCFC Youth was excited to partner with FAW Trust to benefit our coaches and their players.
