Club Update on COVID-19

NCFC Youth families,

I know that you all are balancing a lot right now. Being a parent, working mom/dad, and teacher is a lot to manage, and soccer is not the most important thing in our lives. But we hope that your kids are finding a good distraction and staying active while balancing schoolwork and homelife. By now, you should have heard from your program director with resources to help keep your kids engaged, motivated, and active to the extent you are able. We hope that “soccer coach” becomes a welcomed role and a fun distraction for the whole family.

We continue to monitor the developments and impact of COVID-19. With the latest announcement by Governor Cooper announcing school closures through May 15 and new “stay-at-home” orders happening across our service area, we anticipate that our April 13th restart date may be pushed back. Our staff is working on multiple contingency plans, so we are ready in all scenarios. The continued plan is to have a season of soccer with any delayed start.

Our intent is to get back on the fields as soon as we are safely able and offer valuable programming to all our players. For the programs that we manage in-house (i.e., Recreation, Challenge, Juniors, La Liga, TOPSoccer, JDP, camps/elite technique), our plan is to extend the season. Depending on when we start, this could take us into the early part of summer. For Classic, Elite Clubs National League, and the US Soccer Development Academy, we are still waiting on a definitive answer from governing bodies including NCYSA, US Club Soccer, and US Soccer, which will impact and set the direction for what we do. As soon as decisions are made, we will act accordingly. The NCFC Youth Board of Directors, staff, and I are committed to ensuring the viability of our club and our members, and we remain optimistic that a delayed start and/or alternative programming will provide the value that you are expecting with your NCFC Youth experience.

As our staff works diligently and creatively to foreshadow various scenarios, no firm decisions have been made at this time of exactly how the season will unfold, as it is still too early to know what will transpire these next few weeks. We are considering all options to continue to run an organization that meets the needs of our community for the short and long-term, without sacrificing all that we have accomplished over the last 46 years serving our community.

We appreciate your continued patience and understanding during this time. We hope that you all stay healthy, and we will be in touch soon with updates as more concrete decisions are made.
