Soccer Staff Structure Set for 2020-21 Season

Reorganization provides more engagement of age group and regional directors with the programs they oversee

Staffing assignments are set for the 2020-21 season across the Juniors, Classic, ECNL, and Academy programs. In addition to shaking up how some of our programs are managed, NCFC Youth has added new coaches to round out our full-time line-up of coaches.

Some of the most notable changes for this year allow more of our Classic directors to spend more time on the field with the age group or program they oversee. This provides more engagement with players, coaches, and teams within their age group, and the opportunity to build the best player development environment and experience. These changes create a stronger connection between our Directors, coaches, players, and families.

“We are really excited about this new structure and the impact that it will have program wide,” said Steven Curfman, Director of Classic. “One of our strategic goals has been to increase the amount of time our Directors are able to spend on the field with their teams, and we feel this is great step in that direction.”

As a byproduct of being on the field with players, Directors will also have more opportunity to observe coaches within their program and provide guidance in their development. In the U11 age group, Directors will run 1 session/week for all U11 teams in their region. Not only does this provide a great experience for the players, but also this allows our coaches to learn from directors in action.

In addition to the new staffing structure, NCFC Youth added depth to our full-time coaching staff with the additions of Emma Thomson, Jay Williams, and Jamie Corti. Emma and Jamie add much needed female-coaching in our girls’ program. And, while Jay has been on the field as a coach, he’ll now take his expertise to our Supplemental Training Program to create an environment for our players to enhance their skills through a variety of tailored programs.

Check out some highlights of our coaching staff additions below:

Emma Thomson: After playing at Penn State, Emma then played professionally with the Boston Breakers and Doncaster Rovers Belles (UK). Most recently, she worked at George Mason University, as the Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach, and FC Virginia as a Development Academy Staff Coach and Operations Coordinator. This experience will serve her well as an NCFC youth ECNL staff coach. To read more about Emma, click here

Jay Williams: Jay is an NCFC Youth alum and has been a coach with our Academy and Classic teams. His role is now expanded to be the Supplemental Training Coordinator where he will oversee Elite Technique, Skill Building Series, Summer/Winter Intensive programs, and clinics. Jamie Corti was born in Florence, Italy and became a North Carolinian at the age of 10. Soon after the move, Jamie became a member of NCFC Youth and was with the club until her senior year. We are thrilled to have her back as a Camps & Events Coordinator and coaching within our classic program.
