Read and Feed is an after-school literacy program that provides meals, tutoring, and books to children from low-income families in Wake County. They aim to bridge the reading gap by providing children with resources they may not have access to at home including books and food.
North Carolina FC players were special guest readers for the program during the month of October, and we hope to collect enough food during our drive to create 400 “treat bags” to deliver to program children. To help make the treat bags, the following donations are most needed:
- Canned proteins (e.g., canned tuna, canned chicken)
- Canned fruit
- Healthy (non-perishable, individually wrapped) snacks
- Canned Vegetables
- Squeezable applesauce
- 100% fruit juice boxes
Participation is not limited to any specific program, field, or facility. We encourage all teams to coordinate their own food collection and designate a team representative to organize adding their team collection to a drop site (below) during training times. More information on some location collections and additional collection sites will be shared directly to region / area / program families through volunteers and coaches, so keep an eye out for more information. Or, if you have any questions, email [email protected].
