(Raleigh, NC) NCFC Youth is pleased to welcome Wezly Barnard as the Director of Goalkeeping. Barnard will be supported by current Technical Director of Goalkeeping, Nathan Thackeray and Assistant Directors of Goalkeeping Xavier Audergon and Giovanni Solis. Barnard began his role February 2, 2020.

Barnard, a native of South Africa, grew up playing the majority of his soccer career as a goalkeeper in South Africa. He went on to play soccer at Young Harris College (2009-13) in Georgia's the starting goalkeeper. During his time at Young Harris, he was coached and guided by Nathan Thackeray, NCFC Youth’s Goalkeeper Technical Director and NC Courage Goalkeeper Coach. After graduation from Young Harris, Barnard was hired to recruit for the college.

“I am delighted to add Wez to our staff and feel like he will be a great addition,” said Paul Forster, NCFC Youth Director of Soccer. “He will continue to build on the strong culture we have within our Goalkeeping Program and strive daily to improve the quality of every component. He is the final piece to an already strong Goalkeeping staff that is in place to support the development of our young players."

“Wezly is going to be a terrific addition to the NCFC Youth staff, even more so, the NCFC Youth Goalkeeper Program,” said Nathan Thackeray, current NCFC Youth Technical Director of Goalkeeping. His ambition and drive, along with his outgoing personality and willingness to go the extra mile will make his transition into the club a seamless one. I’ve known Wezly for a number of years and I’m delighted to have someone of his caliber on staff with us moving forward. I have no doubt that Wezly will be a huge success in his new role as the Director of Goalkeeping and will be able to continue to push the goalkeeper program forward. I’m excited to work with him closely in my new role as the Technical Director of Goalkeeping where I’ll continue to focus on the development of the goalkeeper staff.”

Barnard holds a National D License, Goalkeeper 3 Diploma, and is currently working on his C License.
