Juniors FAQs

When are 2020-2021 Juniors Evaluations (try-outs)?

All players interested playing in our Juniors program must attend our annual evaluations in June.

Do I have to register for Juniors Try-outs?

Yes. All players interested in our Juniors program must register for Intent to Play.

All players interested in our Challenge program must create an account in PlayMetrics in order to register for Evaluations and Intent to Play. (Parents/Guardians should create an account in their name and add each child as a participant.) If you already have an existing PlayMetrics account, please login to register

What are the eligible age groups for Juniors?

Age groups are based on birth year. Boys & Girls in the following age groups are eligible for Juniors: 2011, 2012, and 2013.

If I am a Recreation player and I tryout for a Juniors team and am not chosen, will I be able to return to my current Recreation team?

Yes, as long as you register for Recreation soccer by the Guaranteed Placement deadline and choose "return to previous team".

Please do not register for Recreation soccer until you hear from the Juniors staff after the Juniors evaluations.

Where will Juniors trainings/practices be held?

Teams practice in their chosen region: North, South, HSFV, or DCH. Games are predominantly played in your region with some travel to one of our other regions.

When do Juniors teams train and play games?

Our 9-month program is made up of 3 seasons: fall, winter, and spring.

Fall (August-beginning of November) and Spring (February-May)
Fall and Spring are the primary seasons for the Juniors program. Juniors players train twice a week 90 minutes each training session.

Winter (December & January)
A total of 4 training sessions and 2 play dates will be scheduled during the Winter season. Training sessions are reduced in order to allow our young players the downtime to recharge and try-other activities or sports.

Who makes up the Juniors Coaching Staff?

The Juniors program has a full-time director who is supported by regional and age group directors that help manage the coaches, players, and program to ensure a high-quality offering for families. Juniors players will work with passion passionate and experienced coaches who are paid for their ability to teach young players and share their love for the game.

How much is the Juniors program?

The annual club fee includes field rentals and usage, coaching staff & education, and administration.

What is Juniors Elite?

Top 2011 players identified at Junior Evaluations will be invited to the Junior Elite teams. Juniors Elite Teams will be formed in the North and South, and possibly in Durham/Chapel Hill and Holly Springs & Fuquay Varina depending upon quality of players at Evaluations and the Director's discretion.

These teams will function similar to a 2010 Classic team:
-Train 3x week
-Compete against '10 teams
-Have team managers, team fees, attend tournaments and etc.

How will training groups be formed?

Our goal is to create a true academy environment. We want players to have the chance to view other players training, which will inspire them to improve. We will have the same age Juniors players train with their age group in the same time slot and field when possible. Days and times of training will be solidified end of April.

Will Juniors teams compete in tournaments?

Our players participate in our in-house events which allows us to limit travel and expense and still provide a great environment for our players to compete.

Will Juniors teams play outside competition?

Juniors directors will set up playdates with other appropriate clubs (i.e. GUSA, WHYFC and etc.) during the fall and spring season. There will be limited travel outside the Triangle. Due to the number and quality of teams, most weekends Juniors teams will play against other comparable Juniors teams.

Can a player play up an age group in the Juniors program?

Our staff strives to make the best decisions for each player. If the Juniors staff feels that a player should play up, we will communicate with that family. However, all players must attend evaluations that correspond with their birth year, unless told otherwise by a Juniors Director.
