NCFC Youth Proud to Sponsor NC Power Soccer

NCFC Youth is excited to announce our sponsorship and support of Carolina Thunder, North Carolina’s first Power Soccer team. Carolina Thunder is dedicated to bringing the thrill of competitive sports to athletes (age 5+) who use power wheelchairs. The program launched in July 2024 with an inaugural clinic, which has since grown into a full season of programming with 8 session days.
“We have really enjoyed getting to know the team behind NC Power Soccer whose passion and drive brought this program to life for our community,” said Katharine Eberhardt, NCFC Youth’s Chief Marketing & Development Officer. “As part of our ongoing commitment to community, inclusion, and growing the game for all athletes, we are more than happy to help support an environment for all kids to participate and grow through soccer.”
So far this season, NCFC Youth has provided equipment to support on-court programming, donated an end-of-season celebration gift for athletes, and offered additional resources to bring awareness to and execute the program. Looking ahead, we’re already making plans to provide official jerseys for the athletes this spring and step up in any way we can to support Carolina Thunder.
What is Power Soccer?
Power Soccer is designed for athletes who use power wheelchairs. Open to players ages 5 and up, the game is played indoors on a basketball court with an adapted, larger soccer ball. Players use their chairs—fitted with specially designed footguards—to pass, defend, and score goals.
Where does Carolina Thunder (Power Soccer) Play?
All sessions are hosted on Saturdays at Hope Community Church (2080 East Williams St., Apex, NC 27539) from 11am – 12pm. The program had its first session on September 6th and will host sessions every Saturday from now through October 25.
How can I volunteer to coach?
NC Power Soccer is looking for additional volunteer coaches/assistant coaches as the program continues to grow. If you would be interested in working with youth of varying abilities, have a positive attitude, and available to help out on Saturdays in the Apex area, please reach out to Josh Hewitt at jthewitt@gmail.com
